For a long time Containers Direct have made available shipping containers cut to non-standard lengths, but until now there has remained a gap in the market for containers of non-standard widths. We are pleased to announce that since our workshop expansion, we now have the facilities to offer our clients newly built containers for storage in any width!

Until now the only containers widely available have been 8ft wide – which is the standard manufactured width of shipping containers (the most popular type of shipping container), made this size to conform to strict ISO shipping standards. In order to make containers of different lengths, it is common practice to cut standard 20ft and 40ft long containers down – for example a 40ft container cut into four pieces will yield four 10ft containers ideal for storage. However, the width will remain at 8ft, which is all well and good if you can want an 8ft container, but requests for containers come in regularly from clients asking for a narrower option, most commonly for:

• Bike storage
• Archive paperwork storage
• Tool storage
• Allotment/back yard shed
• For location in restricted spaces

How we make new width containers

Using new steel we can fabricate containers to order, so whether it's a slender little 5 or 6ft container you'd like, or at the other end of the scale, something much wider than the standard 8ft size, Containers Direct are happy to quote you. Our 'pick your own width' containers are new build and not cut down from existing shipping containers, giving our clients the opportunity to specify their required length and height dimensions too!
