Shipping Container Wall Build
While full container conversions are our area of expertise at Containers Direct, there are also many basic procedures we carry out on a daily basis in our workshops. To ensure our clients are satisfied with our quality of work, we have a series of features on our website that examine these basic elements of container conversions in detail.
This feature examines the shipping container WALL BUILD, which has to be carried out on many shipping containers that have been cut down to size, for storage or other conversion projects.
Reasons for a new wall build
- The container has been cut down to size from a larger container, that's retaining original doors - therefore the end wall will be missing after the cut.
- The container cut is the middle section of the larger container - therefore it will require both new doors and an end wall
- The client has requested side doors instead of the end door - therefore a new wall is required to replace the gap left after the end door removal
Materials used for new wall build
- 50 x 50mm box steel - steel box section comes in square, hollowed sections, which gives it strength. We use these to make the wall frame
- Corrugated steel panels - the corrugations not only add to the strength of the wall, but also blends the new wall into the rest of the standard shipping container corrugations
Building the wall
Step 1 - Measuring and cutting the box steel wall frame
Step 2 - Positioning the box section on to the welding frame (the jig)
Step 3 - Welding the box section framework together
Step 4 - Welding the two corrugated panels into the frame
Welding complete
Step 5 - The new wall is fully seam welded to the container, and repainted
We paint the new wall at the same time we repaint the rest of the container, when all work is complete. Repainting is done to our client's colour of choice.
