The answer is - yes of course! We offer a wide range of door types to fit into your container, designed to be the best match for your usage requirements. Side doors are popular for the easiest and most convenient access to the inside of your container.

Containers Direct are industry leading experts in creating side door containers. We can fit side doors into any position along the length of your container, using our special S1 flat panel doors, which are designed to give you easy access to your container storage due to their ease of opening. Container side doors are not limited to our S1 door type. Although these are our most popular and best value doors, we offer an upgrade to S3 doors, which have an extra locking arm and fitted door seal as extra.

Side doors in container conversions

The process of repurposing a shipping container for a wide range of applications, requires a number of modifications to be made, starting with the doors. Different door types from our standard range of doors on storage containers frequently used for conversions include:
  • Roller shutter (S4)
  • These are often used in catering conversions and portable food stalls - for example, our MenuBox® range. Fitted into the side of the container they cover and lock up the serving hatch at closing time.

  • Personnel doors (S5)
  • These can be fitted into the side of your container for any purpose, allowing easy, pedestrian entry. Our ModiBox® portable office package includes a side personnel door as standard.

  • Patio doors
  • For bespoke conversion projects, we offer a variety of domestic style patio doors and bi-folding doors to enhance the aesthetics of the container. These are most often fitted into the side of the container.

Reasons to chose side doors

Flexibility of positioning your container

Depending on the shape and size of the space where you want to site your container, it may be better in terms of access to have the long side wall front facing, instead of the end wall where the doors are traditionally placed.

Easy access to your container storage

Although shipping containers are used for a wide range of applications, strong and secure storage is still the top use. If you have a lot of goods to store, and/or require frequent access to them, a side door gives you equal access to both ends of the container, meaning you don't have to pull all your stuff out via the end door to find and take out what you need. This is a bigger headache in longer containers. For instance, in a 40ft container with end doors only, the storage at the back of your container is almost 40ft away and that's a lot of stuff to wade through to access.

A wide range of side door options

If one side door is not enough, widen your container access by choosing from further side door options:
  • Additional side doors

  • Extra wide doors

  • Full side access - this can be achieved with additional sets of doors, or extra wide doors
