Our client needed a bespoke container conversion to provide a workshop for a building site. This container had a special requirement: it needed a heavy duty beam to be able to lift heavy items up to 500kg in and out of the container.

Special features

  • Modified end doors to create a tunnel

  • Two x personnel doors

  • Heavy duty lifting beam fitted to the inside

  • Electrical installation with metal fittings and fixtures

  • 5 tier shelving and workbench with vice fitted

  • 6 x louvered vents

Making the container workshop

The workshop was constructed from a once-used 20ft unit, retaining the original container doors. We also removed the end wall and fitted newly fabricated flat panel doors to the exposed end to create a tunnel, with the original doors modified to include a small aperture to allow for the heavy duty beam to be installed and protrude when shut. Two further personnel doors were also fitted to the container to allow for pedestrian entry when the other doors were locked or not in use. We then fitted the beam on an internal frame to allow heavy materials and items to be loaded in and out of the container easily via the two larger end doors.

The unit was ply lined and insulated internally, and overlaid with steel lining throughout. We also fitted one bay of 5 tier shelving down one side along with a workbench with a vice. Three louvered vents were installed on each side at the bottom of the container, along with a porthole style aperture with lockable hatch and finally fitted with electrics including lighting, plug sockets and an extractor fan.
